Injuries in sports.

Injuries are a known risk to our participation in sports. The majority of sports injuries did not need to happen according to the CDC. The further an athlete progresses in their chosen sport the more important it becomes to maintain their health. The largest risk factor for future injuries is past injury history.

  • Lower extremity injuries are the most common type of energy seen across all sports and at all levels of play.
  • Most common severe injuries knee 54% , hand 11%, shoulder 7%.
  • 21% of active adults will suffer an injury. (Brueno et al, 2018)
  • 44% of youth athletes will suffer an injury. (Prieto-Gonzales et al, 2021)
  • Youth athletes age 5-14 have the highest injury rate of any group. (Yahtyng Sheu, Ph.D., Li-Hui Chen, Ph.D., and Holly Hedegaard, M.D., Office of Analysis and Epidemiology)
  • 62% of injuries occur during practice (CDC)
  • 10-55% of all sports injuries are strains.

Sports injuries happened because a part of the body was asked to do something that it was not ready to do. Acquiring knowledge of the athletes’ strengths and weaknesses related to the demands of their sport is critical.

Here at invoke we will give coaches and athletes the data they need to go into conditioning, and practice ready to target their most critical weaknesses, and prevent them from getting injured. You can be confident going into game situations, they are as prepared as possible to excel at any challenge.
